Yes indeed it is a store room that they store all their towels in that our masseuse lady were doing their massage there's someone knocking at the door and masseuse lady open the door and let the particular person enter the room while we two ladies on the bed with only towels covering our bodies. It happen more than once. The bed cover was not change, towel was hard. Room was not suitable at all for was a disappointing experience though reservation was made two weeks ahead, at least give us a decent room. That was our first experience using Martha Tilaar because we read reviews were good. Seriously "First impression last". It will be our first and last one to be at Martha Tilaar. We are a group of friends who had an hour to kill and decided to have the 60min foot reflexology. We had a good impression when we entered but was disappointed when we started. There wasnt a towel to cover our cold leg while the other leg is being massaged. The therapists do not seem to get the right pressure of massage. It was either u can't feel anything or it was too painful. I have a high threshold of pain but when I said harder, she uses all her might and caused pain. After the massage, we had to wait for more then 5 mins for them to bring hot towel to wipe our legs. This started a journey of looking for which spas to visit to get those knots out of my body. Martha Tilaar is a homegrown spa. Been to a couple in other parts of Indonesia l, so thought why not give Batam's a try. After arranging with the spa replies via FB were not that fast but at an acceptable 24-48 hours, we then exchanged numbers so messaging over the phone was much more easier and had a faster response. The driver was there when I arrived at 0825. Guess there was a mix up as he was waiting at some alley to wait for the spa to open. To be fair, I think their normal operating hours was from 1000 and I arrived way too early. Upon arrival, I'm given the spa menu too many to choose from!. There's a whole day spa package like 7-8 hours but because I wanted to try one treatment which wasn't part of the day spa package, I went for a la carte instead. My therapist was Nana. Unlike other spa that I went where each treatment a different therapist will attend to you, here you are designated to one throughout all your services. Nana told me that if you can't master all the treatments in Martha Tilaar then you are still not certified to work in their spas! Way to go Martha Tilaar! So I took 4 different types of services. And she is attached to me the whole 6 hours!I started with the princess ritual. I chose this as I wanted a traditional scrub lulur and not those scented body scrub. Her hands were simply wonderful. This young thin girl really have the one of the nicest strong warm hands I've ever felt. You will definitely love their techniques. Good firm strokes but not those painful ones. These are those that really untie your knots putting you in a good sleep. This is exactly what I wanted! Again another wow!Body spa treatment is about hours. I loved every second. Next was their facial. She analysed my skin. I suffer from dull skin so she recommended the whitening facial. There are 3 types of whitening facials if I am not wrong. Ok here I have to say this - I don't go for facials out of my hometown because I do not like the redness after that. And the pain of the extractions!! I go to my regular therapist back home coz she knows how to Care for my dull sensitive skin with minimal redness. But I thought ok let's give this a try and any redness would be gone when I return to the office next week. And surprise surprise, she is really good, no redness!! Yes extraction was definitely painful but my face was glowing after the treatment. Like seriously glowing and when I got back to the hotel, I saw my skin was flawless. So I declare that this is a must if anyone wants to go here. Try their facial and their products. I'm thinking of buying their products later. Hmmmm. Next is their hair creambath. This is my first time doing this. I didn't have the time to do it when I visited other places so since I am without my kids, hey why not. 😝Since I wanted to try all traditional Indonesian therapies, I took their normal creambath for thinning hair. Another must try. Normal hair treatments, the hair dresser would normally lather the treatment and leave you there waiting for the treatment to be absorbed. Here, the treatment is rubbed into your scalp. Wow. My hair was so soft and smelled so nice. And I was skeptical of ginseng smell as I tried once and felt like puking, here the smell is simply divine. No regrets at all. My last treatment was pedicure. Hmmm, maybe as it is my first time doing pedi in batam, maybe it is the way to have a dry pedi. Your nails are not soaked in a tub so it's not soft when they cut. Hurts a bit. Maybe I'll try elsewhere to see if that's the norm here. All in all, my 6 hours was well spent. Would I come again, a definite yes. Was the price worth it, all except the pedi. Oh and I also bought some of their hair products too. I'll probably get the face ones later. Thanks Martha Tilaar and my therapist Nana. I feel like returning next month but my hubs would probably kill me if I wanted another weekend away from him and kids. I usually get waxing at Pink Parlour and have tried some other waxing place, but this is my first time trying at Martha Tilaar. I asked the therapist what kind of wax it is, whether caramel or candle wax, she said it was candle wax. I told her my doctor told me not to get waxing with sugar/caramel waxing. And so the waxing began, it was very painful as it would be, and before she did the last part, she offered me to compress with warm towel to relieve the pain, I felt so strange because I’ve never offered warm towel at any other waxing place, instead an ice cold towel, so I told her I want a cold towel for compress and she took the cold towel to compress. And then she wanted to continue but then my whole miss v was becoming very sticky, she made some attempt to clean it and wax the the last part area of the hair, and it didn’t work because it was too sticky and then she applied baby oil and then asked me to go to the shower room to wash my miss v with water to remove the stickiness, I felt so very strange and angry but I tried anyway, I washed it with water but my hand got sticky and I could not clean it properly and ask her how to clean it so it would not become to sticky, and then she applied more baby oil and then put some lotion and she said she could not finish the undone part because after applying baby oil lotion and lotion the skin pore is clogged and she should not do the waxing anymore and she told me she would tell the cashier to charge me with bikini waxing fee instead of brazilian waxing fee. I was too pissed and I complain to the reception / cashier and asked them what kind of waxing it was and what the right procedure really was, and they told me it was sugar / caramel waxing, and the therapist was defending herself by telling us that it became sticky because of the cold towel compress which she didn’t explain to me earlier. So I end up having an unfinished brazilian waxing and went home only to find my miss v is still sticky and there is no way to clean it if I didn’t use soap although they said not to use any soap after waxing. I’m so worried if I got irritation of something serious because this is an intimate organ. I never thought that Martha Tilaar is so unprofessional and the reception is also rude. If there is anything happen with me because of the waxing service that I got, I would blame them, seriously. Never go to that place!!!!! Sounds too good to be true? You right. Next weekend we came to to the same place to try different type of massage. And they told us that they do not take men any more! So I could get one, but not my husband. Manager told us that the salon in Kunningan City mall is taking men too, so we should go there. They assured us again our discount would be working whatever, we take taxi to go to Kunningan City Mall. Guess what? According to the manager of salon in Kuningan, the discount is not working there and only applicable for salon in Grand Indonesia. Awesome!In the end We spent money for the products we don't need by the way, sunscreen is super white, the lied to us abut the discount conditions, and they made us spent money on taxi to go to the place we would never go - there are plenty of other salons in the neighborhood. Within an hour of leaving the spa I was not surprised when I saw how badly bruised I was. I asked for less pressure but this went largely ignored. The therapist didn't seem to pick up on any other clues such as my flinching and groaning. The aromatherapy caused my nasal passages to swell completely closed. It was my first visit and will be my last one. I went in with high expectation of being pampered and feeling relaxed after the treatment, because for IDR 475,000 for a hour of body massage, it's considered pretty expensive, similar to a body massage session at a 5-star hotel. My experience, however was the total opposite!! I was not pampered or relaxed at all. The therapist was rude, and when I was ushered in by the front receptionist/cashier, she directed me to another therapist, but when I was inside, she handed me over to another therapist. This therapist was super bad.... bad... bad.... has bad attitude, massage was not up to standard, it was rushed, not relaxing at all. She opened the door and came in several times while i was changing before the massage!!! When I complained that the air conditioner was not cool, she OPENED the door!! although a little bit, but she did open the door, and I immediately told her off and told her to close the door. And for the first 45 minutes, there was no music playing, and instead what I heard was their employees chatting and gossiping, and I can hear their chats clearly!! So then I asked to change to another therapist, which is a bit better, but still not up to standard. And the place looks old and not well maintained too, looks like a cheap place, not on par with the price that they the front cashier/receptionist also has bad customer service!! and didn't handle customer complaints well. Then, i also booked a blow styling after the massage. I thought, hey it's a salon and spa, so I thought I'd fully pamper myself. Oh my GOD! the salon employee was so incompetent, that I had to take over the straightening iron after 75% done, because she's just incompetent and don't know how to style using a straightening iron. I mean, come on... it's way easier than the normal blow out, which she was also incompetent by the way and that's why i ask to use the straightening iron. Just plain incompetent!!!!In summary, I would never ever ever recommend anyone to go to Martha Tilaar Salon and Spa at all. Spa was bad, Salon was bad too. Not impressed with the masseuse who was not professional and had bad attitude. The massage itself was not up to the standard for the price paid. Just kneading and rubbing basically with no technique and it felt rushed. Apparently she shortened the massage to 45 minutes. When I asked why only 45 mins, she made up the time. But what annoyed me she then deliberately massaged me harder until it hurt because she wasnt happy about she got caught up with cheating time.
